Erin & Kate's Bedrooms
I have always had a keen interest in interior design. I actually have an Instagram account full of photos of our old home and had around 12,000 followers interested in my home decorating. I guess it's the creative side of me. My husband always says I'm really good at visualising something before it's even there and can see the end result before it is complete.
Our girls shared a room at our old address but when we decided to move, we wanted them to be able to have their own space. So we moved in May last year due to me not having any more room to work my small business from home and sought after a property with a garage that we could convert. This was originally going to be my work space to make frames and gifts in but when I decided upon photography as a career, it became my studio.
I guess you could call my home decorating style 'minimal.' I'm not a fan of clutter and unnecessary items and so I like my rooms to be simple. I'm not afraid of colour but I do tend to go for warm neutrals. Nothing too bold for me. I always had an idea of what Erin and Kate's bedrooms would look like and I wanted them both to have a different feel. Kate is younger so I wanted to keep hers pink as that is her favourite colour. Erin is almost 6 now and so to have it a little more grown up, I went with grey.
Kate's bedroom
Kate's bedroom window is probably my favourite part of the house. The light that comes in is incredible, it just brings the outside right in. The colour on the walls in here is called Middleton Pink by Farrow and Ball. It's quite hard to tell from these photos but its a really gentle, pale pink and definitely keeps the room looking fresh and bright. The girls have both had a new bed over lockdown, with a trundle underneath. This means they can have people to stay over in the future and they even have sleepovers in each others rooms, too!
When we moved in, Kate's room had a tiny wooden shelf near the door which is actually the top of the stairs. I knew straight away that it would make the cutest little reading corner and I often find them both sat there looking at books together. We sometimes have our bedtime story there, too. The unicorn head on the wall was from Argos and the cute little cloud was made by a small business on Instagram.
Kate has the huge dolls house in her bedroom. They have both played with it so much over the last couple of years and it reminds me of when I was a little girl. I carried over a feature we had in their old joint bedroom to our new home too. The photo wall. They both have a photo wall in their rooms with photos of each other, us as a family and special memories. We change the photos from time to time and Erin often tells me she lies in bed looking at them at night. I found the gorgeous mirrors on eBay and they were literally a few pounds each. They both have a Scentsy warmer too, which if you have visited me for photos you will know I am a big fan of! I love them and I am very lucky to have a friend who is a rep for the company so I always get topped up with more lovely smells. Not so lucky for my husband though, haha!
Erin's bedroom
As you can see, Erin has the same bed as Kate. They had both had junior beds up until now which are much smaller than a single bed and so there was more space in their bedrooms. However, Erin is getting so tall now and it was about time she moved into a 'big girl bed' as she calls it. After putting together Erin's and seeing how excited they both were about having a sleepover together that first night, we decided we may as well get Kate's now too to ensure we can get them the same beds. I do like a bit of matching as you may be able to tell from some of my photos of them.
The colour on Erin's walls is called Cornforth White also by Farrow and Ball. It is one of the nicest grey paints I have seen and doesn't have that cool feel that some grey paint has. It is very pale but the shadows in the photos make it look a little darker than it is. I say I don't like clutter and then I post a photo of Erin's shelves in her bedroom! It may look a little messy but I make exceptions for achievements like this. I always want my girls to feel proud of their hard work and so having their certificates and awards on show is very important to me.
One thing I do like away though is toys! Please be assured they have lots of toys. Lots and lots. But I am quite organised and like things to be rotated so they don't get bored. You can take the girl away from being a nursery nurse, but you cant take the nursery nurse out of the girl! haha! Sets of toys are in different boxes such as all little figures in one, dolls accessories in another, farm and animals in another and so on. When they're not being used they're stored on top of the wardrobe, inside the bottom of the wardrobe and at the end of the bed in boxes and we just get one or two boxes out at a time to play with.
Erin's prints on her wall are one of my favourite things about her room. These were from a lovely small business in Australia called Isla Dream Prints. You can find her on Instagram (I think her name has changed slightly now) and she has the most beautiful prints in her store. Fairies, unicorns, mermaids, the lot! I am yet to add the magical images that I made of the girls with the giraffe and unicorn to their bedrooms but it is definitely next on my list of things to do.
The girls duvet sets I have currently are from eBay but I also have some Dunelm sets with bunnies and fairies. They're all lovely. They both had a set of safe fairy lights from Amazon that we have safely secured to their headboards. The photos do not do them justice at all, they're sooooo pretty in real life. Anyone who knows Erin will know she is a complete bookworm. She has been into books since she was a few months old. We nicknamed her Matilda when she was little because she wouldn't be seen or found anywhere without a book in her hand. She is so good at reading and picked up phonics and sounds really fast as a toddler. Roald Dahl books are what she enjoys now and joke books are the ultimate fave!
I hope you enjoyed the little tour of my girls bedrooms. I do love designing projects and being creative. If you would like to know anything about the girls decor or accessories, please feel free to contact me, I am always happy to talk homes!
