How did I get so lucky?!
She's 7! How on Earth do I have a 7 year old already?! People always say that time goes fast but when you are in the midst of life it really does fly by you and before you know it, your children are another year older. Erin had said to me a couple of weeks before her birthday, "Mommy, I don't want to be 7"
When I asked her why she said because she didn't want to get older. She said 7 wasn't an important number and she would rather stay 6. Well, this brought on a whole conversation all about HOW special 7 actually is...
Number Seven
It has been significant since ancient times. In many cultures it was prominent, the most famous being the Seven Wonders of the World. These include The Statue of Zeus at Olympia, The Great Pyramid of Giza, The Lighthouse of Alexandria, The Colossus of Rhodes, The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, The Hanging Gardens of Babylon and The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus.
It has significance in almost every main religion. The 7 day week that we know and use today was actually from The Old Testament where it was said that the world was created in 6 days and God rested on the 7th. In the New Testament, the number 7 symbolised the unity of the four corners of the Earth with the Holy Trinity. The Book of Revelation featured seven churches, seven angels, seven seals, seven trumpets, and seven stars. In Hinduism, there are seven underworlds and seven higher worlds and Buddhists believe the newborn Buddha rises and takes seven steps. And did you know that Muslim pilgrims walk around the Kaaba in Mecca seven times?!
Number 7 is associated with luck and that's why many gambling machines use number 7's for the jackpots. It's also a prime number which means it can only be divided by itself and 1.
There are seven colours in the rainbow which makes 7 pretty special just for that reason alone!
Seven is a very popular number, probably due to it's good luck hype. A mathematician named Alex Bellos asked 44,000 people what their favourite number was and 4000 of them said number 7!
One of the world's most legendary football players, David Beckham, wore the number 7 shirt when playing. He liked the number so much he named his daughter Harper Seven.
So after her little lesson about how cool 7 is, she totally changed her mind. She is actually really happy she is 7 now :-) We had lots of fun celebrating with her. We went out for a lovely meal with family to The Trooper at Wall. This is what she had said she wanted to do for her birthday so we surprised her. Then the following day, on her actual birthday, we hired a bouncy castle from Tamworth Bouncy Castles for the garden and had a little party with her closest buddies. (If you're looking for a bouncy castle company, I can't recommend this company enough - their service was exceptional and nothing was too much trouble.)
It was boiling hot, like 30º plus so we had to hose the kids down a fair bit! All in all though, she had lots of fun and that's what it was all about. I have never known a child as grateful as Erin. She honestly makes me so proud with how happy she is with everything she receives and she can never say thank you enough. Even for the little things. She's amazing! x
