How can choosing a name be so hard?!
Isn't it really difficult choosing a baby name? Especially if you and your partner can't agree! I was lucky that my husband loved my absolute favourite girls name and we knew straight away that that was going to be her name. Erin. The same with our second daughter, we loved her name, too (she was going to be Isabel but we swapped that to her middle name.) Kate.
If either of them were a boy, we loved the name Jack. There were other names that I liked for boys and girls though, although we probably didn't agree on any of these haha. I thought I would share some of my favourites with you! Some are traditional (a lot are Irish names) and some are more modern. I like a mix of both...
MILLER
Miller means 'one who works in a mill.' This started rising in popularity in 2014 and can be used for both boys and girls, although its mainly given to boys.
luna
This has been and always will be one of my favourite names. There is just something really magical about it. Derived from the Latin word for 'moon,' Luna is a mystical name.
MILA
This Slavic name contains elements of the word 'mill' which means 'gracious or dear.'
MAYA
In Hebrew this name means 'water' and in Sanskrit it means 'illusion.'
Faye
This is my Erin's middle name. It's apparently derived from the Middle English word for 'fairy.'
LEIGHTON
In England and Wales, Leighton is primarily given to boys, however it is more common as a girl's name in the US.
RIAN
This Irish name is pronounced 'Ree-uhn' and means 'little king.' It is definitely one of my favourite boys names.
QUINN
While this name broke into the top 100 names for girls, it also ranks on the boys' list, too. It means 'chief leader, intelligence.' I love it for a girl, I think it is so simple and classy.
REID
I love that this name is short and simple. Another variation is 'Reed' which is often favoured by musical parents.
ASHTON
This name began as an English surname meaning 'from the town of Ash' but it also became popular when Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher became famous.
EVAN
Evan is a mellow, unique name which means 'God is gracious.'
Finley
Finley is a Scottish royal name, which also belonged to Macbeth's father. It means 'white warrior.'
AIOFE (EE-FA)
This name means beautiful, radiant or joyful and is likely to derive from the Gaelic word 'aoibh' meaning 'beauty' or 'pleasure.' In Irish mythology, Aoife is known as the greatest female warrior in the world.
CAOIMHE (KEE-VA)
From the Gaelic word 'caomh' this name means gentle, beautiful or precious. LOVE IT!
CADHLA (KY-LAH)
This name means beautiful, comely and graceful. Isn't it pretty?!
AVA
The name Ava means 'like a bird' and is of Latin origin. Originally, the name Ava was the diminutive version of the name 'Avis.'
JACK
The name Jack means 'God is gracious' and is of English origin. It was originally a nickname for the name John but has since become popular as a name on its own.
OTTILIE
A version of Odilia, a feminine version of Odo, from the Germanic meaning 'wealth, fortune.'
Everly
The name Everly is a girl's name of English origin meaning 'wild boar in woodland clearing.' It can also be spelt as Everleigh and reached the top 100 names in the US in 2017.
James
The name James means supplanter and is of Hebrew origin. It is timeless and classic and has been popular for many decades. It is also being used as a girls name now, too.
SHAY
The name Shay means 'Hawk' and is of Irish origin. Shay can be used for any gender but is most popular as a boys name.
I also think it's funny how names go out of fashion and come back in again. My Nanny's name was Florence and I remember associating her name with the elderly and now look! Florence is one of the most popular names at the moment along with names such as Violet, Elsie, Arthur, Ronnie, Ivy, Mabel, Reggie and so many more! I would love to know how you chose your children's names. Maybe you always had your heart set on them, maybe you named them after loved ones, or maybe you made up your childrens names! Let me know!
I hope these give a little inspiration to any new parents out there who may be finding it tricky to choose a name for their little one. It really is difficult sometimes and you have to get it right. This is their name for the rest of their life so you have to love it. Good luck!!!!
